Our fine-tuned recipe for launching your website may not be patented, but it is perfected. This multi-step process has proven itself time and time again, pushing out new websites in an average time of 3-6 weeks, while baking your new website to its full potential.

Some clients think they should stay away from the design process, but that’s not the case! Your experience and expertise are invaluable to us. You know your business better than anyone, so don’t be afraid to give us context, on everything. The more we know, the better equipped we’ll be to create a tailor-made website for your business.

It’s also your job to manage your team and decide who’s responsible for what. Set roles at the beginning of the project and clearly state who is responsible for signing things off. If it’s you, be involved in the whole process. If you’re too busy, delegate the authority to someone else.

Your feedback is crucial to our success, so please give it in a timely manner. We pride ourselves on producing world-class websites in a reasonable timeframe. If there are delays in us getting feedback, it might mean we need to pause the project until we get another gap.

Finally, ask questions! We love discussing the reasoning behind our work and the why’s behind our decisions.

Here’s a rundown on web design process:

Strategy

Goals get you off the ground, and they’re the very first step of our web design process. Work begins with a Metal Potato strategy session where we learn about your needs, dreams and goals.

Then, based on that information, we’ll submit a set of recommended requirements to you.

Design

Design is where styles come into play. Here, we ask for 3 example websites with features or aesthetics that you like. This feedback gives us a basis from which to begin the design process. We’ll ask tough questions here, like how you want people to interact with you site, and what kind of content you want to feature most prominently.

During the design phase, the team works to create a visually appealing and engaging website that aligns with the established style and design brief. Aspects of the design phase include the best way to showcase the brand digitally, including elements such as colour palettes, typography, photography, spacing, and general layout.

Build

The build is the complicated part. This is where we break down the websites features and feel into the code that makes it work. An average website can be crafted from anywhere between 1,000 to 50,000 lines of code—each one checked for functionality and tested for compatibility with major browsers and mobile devices.

To guarantee that each module works seamlessly on multiple browsers and mobile devices, we’ll conduct extensive responsive web design (RWD) testing.

Content

Once our code has been tested, we are ready to add your content to the mix. This is where you truly begin to see your website take shape. Your graphics, images, copy and videos all come together to create the first recognisable iteration of your new website.

It is advisable that you start preparing this content as early as possible. Failure to provide the necessary content often causes delays in the web design process.

Let’s do launch!

Once the build is complete and content has been input, we’ll upload your website to our development servers for your viewing. This stage is the final testing ground before your website launch.

Before launch, your site is proofed for copy errors, re-proofed for coding and compatibility, and then—finally—sent to our Potato launching pad for blastoff.

Maintain

You wouldn’t send an astronaut into space without life support. That’s why launch is not the final step to our web design projects. Yes, we’re glad to see you soar; but we’ll be right here at ground control for ongoing maintenance and website updates whenever you need a lifeline from home. We’ll help you keep fresh, engaging content on your website and help it continue to evolve as the world around you changes.
