There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes here at Metal Potato, and because we value our customers highly, we thought that it was only fair to let you have a look at how we go through our web design process, from start to finish.

The way that we design websites, usually incorporates a five-step web design process, created to get as much detail and feedback from you, the client as possible. There’s no point in creating something that simply doesn’t fit in with your brand. The more detail we gather, the better our chances are of creating something that you’re going to love.

So why don’t we have a closer look at how we do things, starting with:

Step 1: Strategy & Communication

Right from the very beginning, we involve you in our brain-storming process. Before we even start thinking about designing your website, we need to look at where it will fit in with regards to the overall marketing of your brand. Expect to be asked questions such as:

  • what are the long term goals of your business?
  • do you already have a brand logo and image?
  • what is your mission statement, if you have one?

Those are just a few examples – we’ll probably also ask you what other products and services you offer and how people might find you via search engines. We need this feedback, so that we can research keywords for search engine optimization purposes – keywords that will help your online visibility.

Step 2: Design Proposal

Once we’ve gained as much detail from you as possible on what you want from your website, we will then outline a proposal, incorporating every aspect of your website design.

This is where our relationship with you will really take off because we’ll be showing you exactly what your website will do, how it will look and what its functions are, such as a blog, Ecommerce web design or even a one page website. What’s more there will be no technical non-sense – we’ll produce our proposal in easy to read, step-by-step chunks so that you completely understand what we’re talking about.

Our website design proposal will go into detail on what features your site will have and we’ll also outline our after care services, which includes training you and your staff to use and navigate your website, as well as how to update and change your content.

Step 3: We Build It!

First we’ll start with how your website will look. We’ll share with you a few visual concepts of your website and ask you for your feedback. Only when you are completely happy with the design of your site, will we carry on with the build.

Next we’ll start writing the code for your site. We use HTML and CSS to build the structure of your web pages, look at it as framework for your content to be moulded around. We then work on creating databases that will store the sites dynamic data – information that can be attached to a particular type of content or page, and setting up the content management system.

Furthermore we’ll check your site for keyword density, and cross-browser performance. Just because everything looks okay in Internet Explorer, doesn’t mean it will be the same for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and the other main browsers out there.

Lastly we’ll look at the programming languages and check them for errors. We repeat this process with the website code, features and contact forms to ensure that your website is stable and performs perfectly.

Step 4: Copywriting & Content

We can’t send you a blank website now can we? Once your website has been built and checked over, we’ll ask you for your content ideas. This is what is going to make your website sell and attract much needed traffic.

What do you want your ‘About” page to say? Do you want a Blog, or information about what services you offer? Perhaps images of your products with snappy, persuasive descriptions, or tutorial a video is what you’re after.

Once we know what content you need, our freelance copywriter will start filling your website with engaging, unique and high quality content, populated with keywords and links which are relevant to your brand.

All of our copywriting is 100% unique so you can be sure that we haven’t pinched it from someone else!

Step 5: Promote, Promote, Promote!

At MetalPotato, we don’t just design and build your web design, hand the reigns over to you and let you go on your merry way. That would be rude!

What we’ll do next is optimize your website for search engines such as Google and Bing. Search Engine Optimization is what helps to drive traffic to your website, which in turn increases your page ranking over time and is something we offer as part of our website design service. We’ll also set up Google Analytics so that you can track your web traffic and in no time, you should see your rankings begin to grow!

So there you have it – a peek behind the computer screen at the web design process we actually use here at Metal Potato, when we create your new website design. If you’re still not convinced, why not take a look at at our portfolio and what some of our customers have had to say about us.
